Frozen Peach Yogurt!!!!
~~~ Takes hardly five minutes to make, then an hour to set and few minutes to devour. But shooting this dish took all my energy drained out in a minute.~~~
The story follows……
This is something, that I long to make for almost a decade. Though it is one of the simplest recipes of the world, the tryst seems long till I decided one day to make it. One of the main reasons is Miss Picky Pie’s Cold Allergy. She is restricted to consume cold items often. Like all the kids she is a diehard fan of ice creams, flavoured yogurts etc. But my poor little soul has learned how to restrict herself from these indulgences at this small age. Most of the time I restrain myself from making any cooler or dessert that has to be consumed chilled. But I wanted to make frozen yogurt too. Not because I like it but I wanted to shoot pictures of the Frozen Yogurt. I researched on lot of food photographs, how they were taken and presented and more I saw, the more I got enthusiastic and excited to give the photo shoot a try. Who knows that the scoop of frozen afters would left me out exhausted, tired and forlorn.
I planned perfectly, bought some peaches and roughly sketched the idea how I was planning shoot it. All the presentation and framing were ready in my mind and prepared the peach yogurt. I put it in the freezer and keep on checking in intervals. My idea was to scoop a dollop of yogurt and plate it with some caramelized peaches. So when I felt that the yogurt is ready to be scooped out, I took the container out and dig in with the scoop. But it broke in to crystals and came out in chunks. My heart sank in a second. It didn’t bother me that how we will devour the chunk but I was totally upset with the thought now how I would shoot it!!! I was pretty desperate. I broke the crystal with a fork. Then keep it on the room temperature for sometime to get it a bit melted. Then I scooped the yogurt and with the scoop I again put it in the freezer. After some time when I took it out, I found that I have over frozen the yogurt and it is not coming out of the scoop.
I again kept it out side for a moment. Gave time a bit so that it could easily release the scoop. In the meanwhile I have arranged all the set up for the shoot. My serving plate was ready with all the other components. I gently release the yogurt on the plate, excitedly put it on the table and just about to shoot it my baby woke up. I rushed to my baby putting the plate in the freezer on my way.
I sooth the little soul and put her back again to sleep. And hurried back to finish the undone work. I took out the serving dish from the freezer. I was happy with he texture of the yogurt which was perfectly set but my caramelized peaches were all frozen.
I took the peaches out from the plate and kept them aside. Put the yogurt back to its Iceland. I keep on tapping my feet impatiently with the music of the tic tic tic of the clock. Each second was like an hour for me then. I kept crossing my fingers and praying that my baby should not get up. At last the peaches returned to its normal form. Without wasting a minute I tried to wrap up the shoot as fast I could. It was pick summer the yogurt was collapsing down in every second and two blunders what did-
- I forgot to put an ice tray below the yogurt.
- And I poured honey on the top. The honey which I used was light both in texture and colour. So the picture what I sketched in my mind all went in vein and the frozen texture of the yogurt I disappeared behind the Honey.
Some how I finished the shoot but it was an utter disappointment for me as the execution after my mind flunked off.
What I learned~
To shoot a frozen stuff you have to be patient.
Always take out the frozen item after arranging everything – camera setting, prop setting, the frame and also the focus by using a substitution. So that it should take just seconds to complete the shoot.
Also don’t forget to place it on lot of ice mainly if it is a summer season or shooting out side.
